Almost nobody has drawn attention to one of NAN's and Mr Kavanagh's strengths, genuine care for hazards experienced by HCWs. I was at the NAN AGM in 2019. NAN brought executives from across the world. I spoke with quite a few. All, to a person, were aware of the hazards of working in medical settings. It is replete with anxiety. NAN has been doing HCW worker surveys for over 6 years and is fully aware of HCW needs. Previously HCWs did not rank much with hospital management. They were expendable and easily replaced. Not anymore. COVID has changed the priorites of hospitals.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimate that hospitals are responsible for 1.7 million Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) resulting in 99,000 associated deaths, more annually than those who die from car accidents in the US.

According to an alert from The Joint Commission, 74% of all "immediate threats to life" were from improperly sterilised or high-level disinfected equipment.

You can see that these essential workers are anxious. Inevitably the hospital is sued in litigation happy USA and the poor HCW is identified.
