I've calmed down and had some time to think about yesterday's announcements
IMO - there are only two possibilities on why these announcements were released yesterday:
- To comply with the continuous disclosure rules
- To prep for related news next week
I'm not too sure if there was anything in these announcements to trigger #1
So, let's focus on #2 for a bit...
Credibility is an issue, we SHs can see it, so I'm sure it would have been bounced around the board/ senior management. e.g. we've been heavily scrutinised - is this a good time to release these non-price sensitive announcements?
So why release these announcement now? What could this be prep for?
- Possible meeting with FDA and the underlying data being presented to them?
- Possible closing of Novartis deal based on the underlying data?
- Maybe too many parties know this underlying data already, e.g. NIH so, maybe it's better to be safe with disclosing this information now then have to fight with the legality of not releasing this data later?
- Other???
I'm still thinking we are due for substantial news.
These announcements on Friday were not sufficient, they were just preps
Bring on the value accretive news - as the wait has been painful - enough is enough
Also, Novartis was mentioned in this announcement.
Again, there's no way that Novartis would allowed for their named to be bandied around, if they have walked!
If you don't agree with the importance of brand protection, try to open a restaurant and put the big M on it - let see how you go
Novartis was mentioned and allowed to be mentioned because they are in the thick of it
I would guess that they will be sitting at the table when Mesoblast are having a discussion with FDA next on ARDS - forget the $25m or $50m, we are talking about $billions - that's what at stake for Norvatis
BTW - I could have waited and top up later, but I was expecting value accretive news and still strongly believe it will come.
But, again I'm just having a guess
