A lot of people in the thread seem to believe that if, for example, Bank of America had a large short position on Zip and therefore were applying big downward pressure on the share price. Then if they were to make a take over offer of Zip, then the shorting would somehow get overlooked in negotiations regarding the premium price Bank of America would pay Zip for the acquisition.
With the percentage talk, I just meant the percentage above Zip market cap (measured in dollars) would then be greater than a usual premium paid in an average take over in order to account for the short position of the acquirer.
I could be wrong I guess, but I'm not seeing how.
