Maybe so mowhibble but I can not see any connection to modern human activities when such changes have occured many times before.
There has been a northerly movement of sand in the area you speak of for centuries. Most of it seems to end up at the Spit which has grown enormously over the past 100 years shifting the mouth of the Nerang river north.
