Since we are on the subject of pain, spare a thought for the bloke who bought a nice-house-sized parcel of BHP in late 2007 and watched the SP tank to $20.
Then, recently, after having had enough white-knuckle pain, decided (belatedly) to set up a stop loss of -5% to avoid the terror of watching his life savings evaporate again. While away from the market for just 24hrs, the stop loss sell is triggered, then the market recovers strongly, leaving him to whimper amongst his losses - now cemented in thanks to his stupidity.
Then, on the 3rd of August, he decides to have a go at shorting - big time. The chatter on Hot Copper looked like pointing to BHPs SP falling off a cliff. "mid twenties" they were writing. Those technical guys sure now how to tell what a stock is going to do - thats why they are all so successful no?...
There is a great deal of pain out there, you are not alone.
