Dave, time for a fact check. Rudd/Gilliard baked into law big increases in spending, namely the NDIS, and did not increase taxes to pay for it, hence why at one stage Turnbull was going to introduce a levy for the NDIS. So while the deficits appear much lower under the most recent Labor Gov, in reality laws enacted in that time has contributed to the much larger deficits. For instance the NDIS, it is already running 10s of thousands of people over originally budgeted and there is clear evidence it is being rorted, for instance the strange increase (greater % than pre NDIS) in stage 2 Autism diagnosis. Once spending is started it is very hard to reign in, the ALP tried to wedged the coalition into higher taxation.
