I don't think there is much point trying to make a best list ..... they're all excellent in their own way reflecting their culture.
Athens last night was about the most serious, intelligent and cool classical. There was an elemental cosmic essence....... highly visual, a logical timeline frieze in one direction as often seen ornamenting architecture, ideal human forms and mythic instincts, earth, fire, water and aerials. On a critical note I felt that the emphasis on the visual seemed to almost eliminate sound and music. There is also the thought that in ancient times all this white marble may have been painted. But all in all it was quite ingenious and a credit to the brilliant Greeks.
