This is an excellent illustration of what we discovered. But instead of someone pouring aluminium, you need to imagine Magma deep inside the Earth rising to fill these cracks (spaces).
Thus far (Gonneville), we found about 11 of these branches. And most of these branches are dipping down Northward towards Hartog.
