Today is Independence Day in both Liberia and the Maldives. Liberia was the first democratic African nation to emerge from the colonial era, declaring its independence from an initially reluctant USA in 1847. The Maldives followed more than a hundred years later in 1965. No disrespect to Liberia, but who could resist a floating breakfast in the Maldives?
