Actually charles the recent huge Howard government handouts to families and carers dwarfed anything Labor has handed out previously. The new baby bonus of $3,000 then $4,000 then $5,000 to mothers of new borns should push the number of young single mothers/pensioners through the roof...just give it a year or so to take effect and see what is almost certainly going to happen.
I am not against assisting families but this mass handout mentality the government has adopted is not the best way and will produce undesirable outcomes IMO.
