Weeks or months away, the latest deal in the mRNA space suggests that PYC are in the right place at the right time. Sanofi have bought the mRNA biotech Translate Bio for US$3.2B. Although the deal is guided by the Moderna effect, the platform will also be used to unlock the potential of mRNA in immunology, oncology and rare disease.
It appears from a cursory glance that Translate Bio aren't that much further ahead in the clinic than PYC although they do boast one clinical program for the treatment of cystic fibrosis. So it seems that US$3.2B doesn't buy a lot of product but does buy a lot of promise. Translating the deal success to PYC doesn't require a great deal of imagination but just a little patience in a world where mRNA is the buzzword.
