@OceanSpray Sorry can't elaborate much, as someone else's baby but here is a tid bit.
End processors and manufacturers are wary of the supply of minerals involved in the hi tech industry, as a lot of control is held by China especially in rare earths. There are emerging risks to supply hi techs as well as other industries and why Government's have "critical minerals" strategies.
In some production processes and end products, the minerals/metals used are the best option, however there are alternatives that can be used if supply dwindles. It may simply be more expensive in some cases, or the final product may not be optimal with weight, size, energy use or other properties.
If you want to reduce the risk of interruption to your process or product, then it is prudent to look at a "substandard" alternative and work to improve it to close the gap so to speak. In some industry using reasonable volumes, Mag has the potential to close the gap with improvements in the technologies.
