The trouble is j you can be cheap one year and damn expensive the next and that can be largely out of your hands if you are chasing the big gross margins ...
I think the key now is to work on reducing the risks that can make you expensive, eg weather, marginal land production and rotations (ie legumes vs none in continuous cropping). That also means accepting lower profits?
