Perhaps you should read some of Siameseparrot's posts. In short: you can print gold.

But failing that, you just dig more of it up. Who knows what awaits somewhere; some new massive source of gold that could either drop the price significantly or if gold were to be - somehow - backing for currency; to cause inflation.
