The problem with vaccinating people during a pandemic, is you do not let the virus run its course, making it mutate into variants that try to combat the immunisation. Because of this, and because of not using natural immunity instead, Covid will be with us forever. If we had let it run its course, like the Spanish flu was allowed to, the virus would have burned itself out by now (like it has in Sweden, resulting in less deaths in the long run. Now we will be infecting and dying from it forever, as it continues to mutate.
