In the UK, we can have a tax free Individual savings account (ISA) account. You can add up to £20K each tax year into it, and you don't pay tax on any profit it may generate. Trouble is if you already have savings in a normal trading account (which is taxed on any profit) you have to sell to get it into the ISA, they can't be transferred by the broker.
