Plenty of people have gone bankrupt or lost millions of dollars being believers in companies that have failed.
I think that quote was intended for your own goals and dreams and when you set your own pathway, not when you are actually relying on someone else to actually do the achieving for you. Maybe their skills or work ethic are not the same as what yours are.
