IMO, @Fearandloathing post is spot on.
That is not to say that management could have done/ can do anything about the SP situation. We will all just have to guess about orders and sales until we are informed. There is a wide range of possibilities for those guesses (dependent on sentiment, I guess).
[Unfortunately for us, management know a hell of a lot more than us about the reality of any guesses we may have - but they can't let on.]
