June 22, 2021 Alabama governor Kay Ivey announced that Westwater Resources Inc plans to build a first of its kind advanced processing plant in Coosa County.
Westwater said its Alabama Griphite Products LLC subsidiary plans to build the graphite processing plant in Kellyton, Al.
”Alabama Graphite Belt” 42,000 graphite rich acres.
Westwater initial investment 80 million Usd with second phase 124 million Usd. Construction will begin later this year, with the graphite processing plant operating by the end of 2022.
Alabama Graphite’s processing plant will produce approximately 7,500 tons of battery-grade graphite a year initially, eventually expanding to 15,000 tons.
IMO we have a better product, but we won’t be the only source of graphite in the US.
