If you've seen my posts on WES threads, you know I'm an enthusiast. That said,
1) Despite its recent run to $26+, WES is a LT play, not a quick win. As Huntley's analyst said: 'The acquisition of Coles Group has the potential to underwrite solid earnings growth over the next decade although there is hard work ahead to maximise returns to shareholders. WES is for patient long term growth and income investors.'
MOST OF THE MARKET DOESN'T TAKE A VIEW 'OVER THE NEXT DECADE!'
2) SP moves are more about Actuals vs Forecasts than anything else. Since WES religiously eschews forecasts, the best you can do is look at Actuals vs Analyst forecasts. In terms of EPS, E*Trade said:
MEDAN 174.3
HIGH 223
LOW 150.4
ACTUAL 160
So, WES' EPS was below the Median Analyst forecast ==> the SP went down. No rocket science or mystery here.
