In the relatively short section northwest of Maitland railway station and Singleton NSW - 46 kilometres by rail - there are at least nine Newcastle-bound coal trains and two wheat trains of various rail operators, miners and grain handlers.
The last two or three (closer to Singleton) are still moving but in time they'll be held at a red signal.
