This is an interesting story, but doesn't seem to have been ramped on HC.
What about all the ones that are?
It is pretty easy for the ASX to catch the scammers if they want to, but admittedly my plan would end up catching mostly the banks.
All they have to do, and it costs virtually nothing, is to collate the HINS on every trade - info they already have, and simply implement a program to look for common relationships.
Within one week they will have a PERFECTLY clear picture of all the teams and independent entities that miraculously appear on different stocks, either stacking the buy or the sell side.
But will they implement this new program that I will call 'Asteroider and Pandoras box' ? Unlikely! because it will tie them up with chasing all the bot stacking engaged in by institutional investors via multiple accounts.
And we all know from the recent UBS case that it is just not cricket for the regulator chaps to question the motives of a banker or fund manager chap. After all, they move in the same circles far away from the unwashed masses.
