I don't agree that "nothing significant has changed".
Going from "near DRAM speed" and improving it by a multiple of 10 is of absolutely monumental significance.
DRAM is used because it is fast and it lasts. But it is inefficient and power-hungry. If you had something that was faster, just as reliable, and also way more efficient (probably by many magnitudes) why would you use DRAM?
Obviously, there is still a lot of development to create functioning products but 4DS is a significantly better investment proposition than it was.
What we don't know, is retention. It was last quoted many years ago at 10 years. But that could have been reduced with the tuning for speed? Or it may not have? The question here is, how does it compare to Flash? Because if it's around the mark or better, then 4DS is sitting on Universal Memory.
Oh, and there is also that point about scaling down as well...and people are worried about a 6-12 month perceived delay.
