In any society there exists a proportion of the population who are mildly mentally ill. It can be 5% or higher but whatever it is they exist.
Usually sad and lonely people, but not always, and they think it's society that is all wrong and not themselves.
Such people often get caught up in conspiracy theories and make up a whole sub culture.
Usually that does not matter much as they have little or no impact on the wider population.
But sometimes it does matter such as when they adopt violence or when they spread misinformation in a pandemic as we are seeing now.
The internet and social media has opened up the ability of even a single deluded nut case to reach a huge audience and sow doubt in the minds of usually sane people.
I am not sure whare all this is going to lead.
