This says to me that your Trust Deed is too restrictive. I can see that Fund Managers of SMSF assets may apply restrictions on what they are prepared to let you do if they are holding your SMSF funds on your behalf, but if you really have set up & are managing your own SMSF fund, then it is your Trust Deed that sets the bounds of what you can do (within the tax & legal constraints). Many, many SMSF Trust Deeds allow you to invest in whatever share you like - it just needs to be worded that way (as is mine).
