China is still uncertain market in the regulatory sense. So, a patent cannot go astray now that the results can be announced. In present china, if you don't have a patent you have nothing (still), but if you have a patent you may have something, because the foreign economic policy of china is trying to promote "protection". Without such thing Belt Road Initiative will not work for example. So, if something is nominally protected (e.g., through a patent) then they protect it ... otherwise they may not care.
