Purely by what they charge; especially in regard to SMSF, which I had for yours; untill pulling it all out to buy my house.
My finding was that there is nothing more automated than preparing the return for the taxman; consequently, the cheapest accountant is what you are looking for. My view is there are no tricks to be pulled, so either they get it right and the taxman accepts it or they don't and are obliged to fix it.
This is talking of a simple SMSF with Australian share holdings. If you have fancy stuff in there, like tangible assets, eg art or cars or things like that, then things my be different.
