Any wrong doing will be determined a long way down the track but to say they will pay a 35m fine is presuming guilt on every count and assuming MAX fine on each one. In theory that is possible but it’s also possible that I will be the next pope. It is very sad that anyone loses their life in the workplace but this cannot be described as the worst mining disaster in Australian history and I say that with much sympathy with the victims family. I do not know what the mindset of upper management was at the time and equally workers on site do not know that either.
if wrong doing is proved then the punishment should and will be proportionate and hopefully lessons learnt for the whole of the mining industry but let’s not pre judge the issue.
