Thank you for this article. An interesting perspective. China has paid the price for unchecked RE mining and is trying to recover form the environmental damage, That horse has left the barn. There is generational damage.
Now they are looking at lower cost suppliers. MP has become one of them, it seems.
Having seen MP's operation there are some smokestacks and a refining plant that is currently shut down. They have plans to re-open eventually.
This leaves Lynas, where Mt. Weld is as clean a mining operation as I have seen and Gebeng, where they use the current state of the art technology. Not a lot of smokestack industry involved.
Environmentalism seems to have also driven efficiency in this case.
