I think the difference between a mediocre management and a stellar management is that the former sits out the bad times, while the latter finds ways to adapt and make money in adverse conditions.
A trial would cost money but it would keep the company relevant, generate useful data and media exposure, and may even open up a revenue stream. It's certainly better than sitting around reading newspapers to see when the COVID situation improves. Anyone can do that without collecting fat pay checks.
