Good points and certainly agree that ticking off China and vice versa is not new. The balancing act of maintaining relations with our biggest trading partner while also relying on the US and UK for defence is also not new.
My question to Steve was more around the initial rhetoric that this is the most definitive statement of Aus planting its flag on one side of the fence as this capability is clearly perceived as a response to China. Mind you, it's also not new to hear that we've put the nail in the coffin of our relationship with China either...
It's an interesting (rhetorical) question, would the majority of Australians prefer burgeoning trade with China or nuclear submarines?
