well a debate is just another term for when two people have a different perspective on a topic and set out their positions. A discussion tends to be more a two way thing that meanders with the possibility of agreement. When you tell me that I haven’t got something right and you know something about a topic - and don’t want to discuss the research I’d call it a debate. You can call it what you like as long as it makes you feel good. After all that’s all that matters really. Accumulation of knowledge - well that sits somewhere else
