Engineering students had a poor reputation at Monash University, but I suspect it was because their lecture theatres were filled predominantly by males. Academic staff often taught in both Science and Engineering and reported on the great difference they experienced when presenting a lecture. Jeering, laughing, lack of attention, and generally acting in a very immature manner occurred in Engineering classes. Not so in corresponding classes consisting of Science students. Whether this has now changed, I do not know. However, adult Engineers just appear agreeable, well informed characters who are across their own disciplines. I did work for many years in the Faculty of Science and was in a personal relationship with a Physics senior lecturer for several years of my life who was able to knowingly tell me of such things as he taught across both faculties, Science and Engineering.
