Sydney: Diversified services company United Group Limited (ASX:UGL) today announced
that it has secured a contract valued at $165 million with BHP Billiton Iron Ore at Port
Hedland, Western Australia.
The project, awarded to UGL Resources, involves the fabrication and on site installation of
structural steel and mechanical equipment associated with transfer stations, conveyors and
shuttles for BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Rapid Growth Project 5.
UGL Managing Director & CEO Mr. Richard Leupen said, “UGL is delighted to be working
with BHP Billiton Iron Ore on this project. This is an important win for UGL and cements our
position as one of the leading engineering and construction services firms in the resources
sector. UGL has an excellent track record and a strong history in the iron ore industry. We
have been a participant on many of the major iron ore development and expansion projects
in Western Australia since the early 1980’s.
“We continue to strengthen our presence in the WA resources sector and currently have a
team of approximately 2,500 people working in that market alone. The planned expansion of
Western Australia’s iron ore industry will provide us with major engineering, construction and
maintenance opportunities over the longer term. UGL is very well placed to capitalise on this
expansion.”
