And who are these OEM's? Most of the major ones spend billions a year on R&D and integrating their tech into their current battery line up. They've got products in market right now and they are supply constrained for some time on relatively tight margins. Who is taking the risk right now to test brand new battery chemistries? If you have a look at Ford's announcement today, VW's power day and Tesla's battery day, all the EV makers are going internal and vertically integrated. They want the lowest cost batteries and they want the research and patents to be in-house to keep the costs down.
Energy density is one thing, cost per watt hour is another. It's the latter, not the former which will determine whether or not LIS can succeed.
