Malcolm Turnbull at the Australian Press Club has just spilt the beans on the new Sub deal.
If what he says is correct its a monumental debacle and we have been basically misled on
the deal. He pointed out there has only been a statement of intent. Australia has no contract,
no design, no costings. just something that will be talked about in coming months.
That is a far cry from all the AUKUS hype.
Mr Turnbull pointed out that the reason that Australia contracted with France
to buy what were Nuclear powered subs but asked they be converted to diesel because
Australia did not have a Civil nuclear industry that could support maintenance of
nuclear powered subs.. He made the point that negotiations that led to the French deal occurred
well before his time as PM. He says Australia has suffered great reputational loss as a consequence
of this AUKUS announcement
He says Morrison has not acted in good faith.
