There is speculation that Qantas will announce a process tomorrow to seek bids to replace its entire domestic narrow body fleet:

    Interesting times ahead for Alliance:

    • Current Qantas wet lease deal on the E190’s is for three years, so presumably a holding deal until a new Qantas fleet is delivered.
    • Does Alliance have a place in the new fleet or will the F100, B717 and E190 replacements be owned and operated by a wholly owned Qantas subsidiary (e.g. Network Aviation)?
    • What use will the 18 E190’s that Alliance has earmarked for Qantas be put after the fleet renewal is delivered , or are the Alliance E199’s part of the go forward picture alongside the Qantas new fleet?
    • Retiring the Qantas F100’s may extend the flying life of Alliances F100’s due to an increased supply of spares or airframe replacements?
    • Presumably Alliance’s E190’s will be far cheaper to operate but will be less fuel efficient and have lower customer appeal than new aircraft acquired as part of the Qantas fleet renewal.
