It effectively is a test tube. It's literally a test, a pilot plant, a proof of concept experiment. It's not commercially viable as a project itself and it wasn't designed to be one, it's just to confirm the methodology is possible and makes the company commercially viable when the method is used on a commercial scale.
Sure, it's better than nothing in the same way that if you got a $100 bonus at work each month it would be better than nothing, but if that was all you got it wouldn't be worth turning up.
The production we're looking at is literally multiple orders of magnitude higher.
