LuckyIrish, your point about being informed is a good one. I have serious doubts about how well public opinion is informed in the US. My first reason is that Dan Rather has said some thing on this point in the aftermath of 9/11. Secondly, the only radio (the best source of news after good newspapers, more than one) I hear where I live is BBC World Service. One often hears letters from citizens in the US praising the BBC for international coverage because they just do not get it in the US media. So I just wonder what the citizens are hearing now and what the congress/men/women are also hearing. It probably does not make for informed decision making.
