I might be wrong but I don't think the aim of share buy back is necessarily to push the price up. It is to acquire shares when you believe the price is low and there are no better investment alternatives for surplus cash. Presumably as cheaply as possible. Nonetheless the price is probably up 60% already from when this scheme would have first been hatched.
