so why would you ask a labour or liberal voter why someone should vote for the greens? Obviously the writer of this article is not a green voter.

It is amazing that the rest of Aust thinks 1 million voters (and growing) are totally delusional.
Perhaps they should be working out why it is so and recognise that 1 million votes is worth some research rather than calling 1 million voters wrong.
to some it would appear even more ludicrous that half the population of Australia will vote for a leader will tell a whopper if it justifies the means if it puts an extra dollar in their pocket.
