Yes that's a real eye opener!
I guess there is a belief that property is very safe and hence no one flinches at investing $1.2m on a 4 bedroom home, 300sqm block in the sticks.
Then you have all the buying and selling costs associated with this investment and your already down $60,000 before you start factoring in potential gains.
Compare that to share at $9.5 per trade on the ASX...you're already up $60,000 compared to buying a property and can buy/sell easily anytime.
Not everyone can understand or appreciate the risks associated with shares i guess.
Having said that, always good to have a balanced mix of assets. I was looking around earlier for a property but the risk/reward just doesnt add up.
