I like your explanation, but it does not, unfortunately, explain all those green olives that I have consumed with great rellsh.
I lived in the UK many years ago, for a while in a village in Devon near Exeter (from a very distant memory, it was a boarding school in a small town called Honiton and, for a short time in Liverpool where my father had a job, and then, prior to coming to Australia by ship, in an underground flat in London (fortunately that was only for the school holidays).
