    Huddo,

Good find and an interesting read, but I must say that it contains some very dodgy maths / logic.

Have a read of the following extract:-

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
"Big plants typically average 30% efficiency, so a 60% NG fuel cell hybrid is twice as efficient as an electric vehicle charged from the grid. That means half as much fuel is consumed.

Twice as efficient as an electric car is saying a lot because electric cars are already three times more efficient than conventional cars. This is because internal combustion engines are less than 30% efficient verses 90% for electric motors. Natural gas fuel cell cars are thus about six times more efficient than today’s cars. Using 1/6th as much fuel means pollution is also 1/6th. "
    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I would have thought that the above is mixing apples with oranges.

The way I believe it should have been compared is ...

    If:
    - "internal combustion engines are less than 30% efficient"
    - "NG fuel cell hybrid" is "60%" efficient

    Then:
    - the "NG fuel cell hybrid" is more than twice as efficient.

The article seemed to compare electric car efficiency (ignoring the power plant) versus regular car engine, then the electric car including the power plant versus fuel cell. Dodgy maths / logic!

That's the way I see it anyway. If my logic is flawed, please feel free to correct me.

    Cheers.
