4DS have for the past 14 years continually achieved every milestone set pre and post Western Digital's Joint Development Agreement and imec collaboration.

The last industry recognisable Technical Update provides an insight for what is to come.

• New process breakthroughs have made 4DS’ Interface Switching ReRAM technology fully compatible with state-of-the-art high-volume DRAM and NAND production processes

• Demonstrated scalability of its memory cell to the smallest cell geometries supported on imec’s memory platform on 300mm wafers using state-of-the-art process equipment (State of the art means anywhere between 7nm, 5nm and 2nm);

• Demonstrated memory cell switching using an access device which is a critical step for producing a functional megabit memory array

• The best recorded speed at near DRAM read speed exceeds Storage Class Memory requirements without the need for speed crippling error correction, sorry in addition to exceeding SCM speed requirements we also by an order of magnitude decreased cell on-resistance, which translates into an up to one order of magnitude (x10) boost in read speed.

• Demonstrated fabrication of fully crystalline Pr1-xCaxMnO3 (“PCMO”) at temperatures compatible with the advanced processes run in today’s leading-edge high-volume memory DRAM and NAND factories

• Demonstrated that this fully crystalline PCMO material reduces the cell on-resistance by an order of magnitude compared to the PCMO material fabricated in the Second Non-Platform Lot. This reduction in cell on-resistance directly translates into a significant improvement in read speed;

• Endurance is two to three times better than previously reported (pre-second non platform lot). Actual endurance may be significantly higher but is currently not quantified due to available lab time and test equipment capacity

The latest achievements are major and should not be looked at lightly.
It's clear why Western Digital called on 4DS to provide them a detailed technical review.
The delays could also be directed by Western Digital with a multi day technical review with 4DS spanning across three weeks to tactically postpone any information being released to the market while they deliberate internally the approach to bust an acquisition.

Western Digital knows that 4DS technology will not last long on the shelf once the market is informed on the latest metrics and geometries achieved.
