It is very easy to see how Hipages charge - as is shown below..
Also, may I refute your assertion that a subscription charge is better than a fee per service as numerically that outcome/proposition would depend on the degree of activity that one accepts from the site - simple mathematics.
And, also they are not mutually exclusive as I am sure that many would us utilize more than one service.
