So it's OK to modulate acceleration by controlling how much you press the accelerator pedal, but it's not OK to modulate deceleration by controlling how much you lift pressure off the accelerator? True one-pedal driving is simple and intuitive, and becomes second nature in no time at all, so why add the complexity (and cost) of paddles?

It's great that your usage patterns (and diligence at plugging in) reduce the amount of fuel that you burn, but I suspect many either don't bother, or have a daily drive longer that the battery-only range of the vehicle.

Regarding Mazda, at least some of their cars (e.g. CX-30) are EVs with a relatively small battery-only range, but with the option for a range-extender motor to recharge the battery. The BMW I3 was similar - option for a small (motorbike) engine to recharge the battery while driving.

Regarding the RAV4 Prime, yes it seems to be a great car (though seems to be hard to get due to production constraints). Nevertheless Tesla delivered 10 times (probably more) Model Ys in the US in the September quarter than Toyota delivered RAV4 Primes.
