Perhaps the reason was...there could have been a 'guaranteed close price' buy portfolio with one of the brokers this arvo...that would explain why the banks and certain stocks rallied..while others did not particapate in the rally..or even fell. BIg caps i mean.
In thinnish mkts...if one gets a $500m dollar portfolio to do over the afternoon...it is gunna have impact. Do not think too deeply is my point.
And i not know if this is the case...but from experience..and just looking at mkt shares in few stocks..tipping good chance.
