That's because it's not irrelevent. The indicitive price at the very least gives you an indication if the sp will open higher or lower than the previous day and by how much. Also if shows if traders/investors are willing to buy/sell prior to open which, especially with smaller cap stocks, is an indicator of early sentiment. The more information we have prior to the open the better.
