    Oct 28 (Reuters) - Newcrest Mining Ltd (NCM) posted a 21.2% fall in first-quarter gold production on Thursday, but said gold and copper output was expected to recover in the current quarter due to lower planned shutdown activities.

    Gold production for the quarter ended Sept. 30 fell to 396,214 ounces, from 503,089 ounces a year earlier.
